By 2024, a new building containing office space in addition to research and development facilities for the Drive Technology and Industrial Automation business units is to be erected at ABB’s largest location in Switzerland, as detailed in a press release issued by the technology group. For this, ABB is investing a total of 40 million Swiss francs at its Turgi site. Construction work is expected to get underway in the spring of 2021.
“This investment is the most significant we have made in Switzerland for around a decade and strengthens the global ABB Competence Center for Power Electronics, from research and development all the way through to production”, comments Robert Itschner, Country Managing Director ABB Switzerland, in the press release.
For Urs Hofmann, Member of the Cantonal Government responsible for Economic Affairs and the Interior of the canton of Aargau, the plans drawn up by ABB support “our efforts to position Aargau as the canton of technology and industry”.
ABB has been active at the location in Turgi since as far back as 1967, the press release explains further. At the present moment, around 1,100 staff members are employed in Turgi. In total, the technology corporation, which has its group headquarters in Zurich and Swiss head office in Baden, is represented in more than 100 countries across the world.
